The Inter-American Development Bank today announced the appointment of Alan Siegfried as its Auditor General. Siegfried, a United States citizen, brings to the IDB more than thirty years of experience in the private and public sectors in the areas of accounting, internal auditing, risk management, internal controls, information technology auditing, operations, business processes and strategy.
In his new post, Siegfried will report to IDB President Luis Alberto Moreno and the Bank’s Audit Committee. The Office of the Auditor General provides independent appraisals on the overall adequacy, effectiveness and efficiency of the Bank's internal controls and risk management systems, and resource utilization by reviewing accounting, operational, and administrative and management information systems and procedures.
The new IDB Auditor General holds a bachelor’s degree in information systems management with a minor in accounting from King’s College, and an MBA with a concentration in management science from the University of Maryland, Smith School of Business. He also holds several professional certifications, such as Certified Public Accountant, Certified Internal Auditor and Certified Information Systems Auditor.
Siegfried has been an internal audit partner at Grant Thornton LLP and Ernst & Young LLP; and Regional Director of Enterprise Risk Services at Deloitte & Touche LLP. He has also held the positions of Vice President and Information Systems Audit Director and Senior Vice President and General Auditor for First Maryland Bancorp. He worked also with the public sector at the U.S. General Services Administration and at the U.S. General Accounting Office, where he held audit management level positions.
Siegfried succeeds Elizabeth J. Folsom and his assignment began this month.
