Focus on lessons and successes of Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) in Latin America
The Multilateral Investment Fund (MIF) of the Inter-American Development Bank and the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit of Mexico will host “Lessons Learned for the Success of Public-Private Partnerships,” a mayor conference to be held Nov. 16 to 18, 2011, in the city of Guanajuato, Mexico.
PPPAmericas will bring together public sector officials, private sector representatives, and international experts in the field to discuss experiences in project preparation and evaluation, risk management and allocation, and the establishment of frameworks in which both sectors participate for the development of infrastructure and the provision of services.
The conference will cover topics including obtaining value for money, fiscal impacts and risk management, PPPs in specific areas (transport, health, water and sanitation), and will include numerous case studies.
Investment in these types of partnerships in Latin America and the Caribbean increased significantly in recent years. Between 2008 and 2009, despite an adverse financial environment following the global financial crisis, the total value of PPP investments in the region grew by 8 percent, and the number of projects rose by 19 percent.
At PPPAmericas, government officials will be able to build their capacity and knowledge of the development and monitoring of PPPs while private sector representatives will be able to learn more about existing needs and more effective approaches to address opportunities in the region.
In this way, PPPAmericas presents an invaluable forum for networking between the public and private sectors and international organizations.
This is the third edition of this annual conference organized by the MIF. Since 2008, the MIF has also organized programs throughout the region to increase the capacity of governments to develop and implement PPPs for infrastructure and basic services.
