Argentina seeks to improve quality of science and mathematics education with IDB grant

The Ministry of Education of Argentina will use a rigorous evaluation design to identify better science and mathematics education models in elementary schools to improve learning of students from poor families and in rural areas.

 

The pilot project will receive a US$2.5 million grant from the Inter-American Development Bank and it will be carried out in close cooperation between the national ministry and the ministries of education of the provinces of Buenos Aires and Tucuman. The pilot project will evaluate the two pedagogical models and try to establish the key determinants of student achievement.

 

The project will also identify methodologies to encourage teachers to offer inclusive education and to promote awareness-rising to stimulate student interest in mathematics and science.

 

Local counterpart funds will total US$200,000.
