Academic experts and private sector representatives to examine costs and benefits of free trade area of the Americas

Academics and experts from around 20 institutions and a dozen countries will examine the costs and benefits of the Free Trade Area of the Americas in an interactive forum with the business sector in Buenos Aires, Argentina, April 3-4.

The Second Academic Colloquium of the Americas will be held as a prelude to the FTAA ministerial conference in Buenos Aires - a meeting that in turn is preparatory to the April 20-22 Summit of the Americas in Quebec.

The colloquium will examine different feasible alternative scenarios, from which important initiatives may evolve, concerning the diverse topics under negotiation.

The forum is organized by the Institute for Integration of Latin America and the Caribbean (INTAL) of Buenos Aires, a part of the Inter-American Development Bank; the Organizing Commission of the VI Business Forum of the Americas; the Organization of American States; and the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean.
