Roberto Izurieta is an economist from the Pontifical Catholic University, Quito-Ecuador and has a Master of Arts in Speech Communication and Political Science (Double Major), from the Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, IL, United States and a Master of Arts, The Graduate School of Political Management, George Washington University, Washington DC, United States.
Prior to his appointment as Alternate Executive Director at the IDB, he served as Secretary of Communication of the Republic of Ecuador (Dec 2023- April 2024) and Ambassador of the Republic of Ecuador in Chile (Dec 2022 - Nov 2023). Previously, he held the position of Director of Latin American Projects at the Graduate School of Political Management at George Washington University. (2000-2022).
With more than 30 years of experience in the development of policy, campaigns and as a political commentator and political strategist, he has worked in such key areas as in education, media and government.
Most of his professional career has been spent teaching and working on campaigns and forming professionals in the field across the South America, North America, Caribbean and Spain. He started early in his career at the Central Bank of Ecuador in the public administration division, and over the last few years, he returned to his public vocation to serve as the Ecuadorian Ambassador of Ecuador in Chile, and most recently as Secretary of Communication for the Government of in Ecuador.
In the academic field, he has written 2 books: “Estrategias de Comunicación para Gobiernos”, and “Cambiando la Escucha”. He still works as a professor in the program of the Graduate School of Political Management of the George Washington University of Washington D.C. He has been a speaker of Governmental Communication and/or Campaign Communication at over 30 international conferences. He has published numerous articles on *CNÑ.com and was a political commentator at the network (Feb 2006 to Dec 2022).
