The Call
The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB or Bank) is seeking to identify ten (10) of the most compelling initiatives that focus on addressing the challenges and needs of the Latin American and/or Caribbean communities in the greater Washington, D.C., metropolitan area (*)
Selected nonprofit organizations will each receive a grant of up to $25,000 USD (twenty-five thousand United States of America dollars), subject to the terms and conditions specified in the Improving Lives Grant Guidelines.
The schedule
- The deadline for submitting applications is September 30, 2024, at 11:59 p.m. (ET)

- Selected proposals will be announced by October 31, 2024
- The implementation period is scheduled from January 2025 to December 2025, inclusive
Requirements for eligibility
Participating organizations must:
- be classified as nonprofit organizations with tax-exempt status under Section 501(c) or Section 509(a) of the Internal Revenue Code;
- be registered and operating within the WDC area; and
- have at least three (3) years of legal existence.
*This area includes the District of Columbia, Maryland (Calvert, Charles, Frederick, Montgomery, and Prince George’s Counties) and Virginia (Alexandria, Arlington, Clarke, Culpeper, Fairfax, Prince William and Loudon Counties).

- DC Bilingual Public Charter School - ensures high academic achievement for all students in both Spanish and English, developing leadership, and valuing all cultures.
- DC Central Kitchen, Inc. - uses food as a tool to strengthen bodies, empower minds, and build communities.
- Hispanic Heritage Foundation - focuses on education, workforce, social impact, and culture through the lens of leadership.
- La Clínica del Pueblo, Inc.- strives to build a healthy Latino community through varied and culturally appropriate health services.
- La Cocina VA - harnesses the power of food and cooking to create social and economic change in low-income communities.
- Mary's Center for Maternal & Childcare, Inc. - integrates healthcare, education and social services to advance participants’ health, stability and economic independence.
- Mi Casa / My House, Inc. - provides, facilitates, and advocates for inclusive, affordable housing for underserved communities in order to promote equitable, thriving and diverse neighborhoods.
- My Sisters Place, Inc. - shelters, supports and empowers survivors of domestic violence and their children, while providing leadership and education to build a supportive community.
- Nueva Vida, Inc. - informs, supports, and empowers Latino families, whose lives are affected by cancer, and to advocate for and facilitate the timely access to state-of-the-art cancer care.

Grants are non-reimbursable funds provided for technical cooperation programs. Some grants may be repaid to the IDB if the program eventually obtains a loan, either from the Bank itself or another source.
