Studies for the Paramaribo - Afobaka Road Rehabilitation
The rehabilitation of the Afobaka Road is expected to facilitate the commercial and cultural exchange between the coastal areas and the central interior of the country. The Afobaka Road connects the alumina refinery at Paranam, the Afobaka Dam, the large interior community of Brownsweg, and the river port community of Atjonie on the Suriname River. All river traffic and commerce on the upper Suriname River is dependent upon the Atjonie river port and hence the Afobaka Road. The upgrade of the Afobaka Road will positively contribute to the economic and social development and regional integration of the central interior of the country.
