The improvement of accessibility between Meerzorg and Albina is expected to facilitate the commercial and cultural exchange between Suriname and French Guyana, as part of the regional integration initiative under IIRSA. The road rehabilitation will allow the optimization of the connection of the north east part of the country with French Guyana. Also, the Meerzorg-Albina road will be an important element of the proposed road that will connect Venezuela, Guyana, Suriname and French Guyana.
