Support for Preparing the 2020 Population and Housing Census
To contribute to the strengthening of Statistical Institute of Belize's statistical capacity to produce quality socio-economic and demographic data, in terms of reliability, timeliness and relevance. A population census is the single most comprehensive data collection exercise a country can undertake, as it allows the opportunity to garner data from every member of the population on a wide variety of topics. Census data provide government and other decision makers with the bases on which to formulate policies and make long-term plans for the development of the country, especially as it relates to demographic, social and economic issues. In addition to policy makers, the census provides an excellent source of information for public, private, international organizations, researchers, academicians and the general public. The census serves as the reference point for statistics produced during the intercensal period, provides the most complete sample frame for household sample surveys, and is the backbone of the national statistical system. Components of the TC with the SIB include: i) improving census maps through satellite imagery; ii) providing training and piloting of electronic collection of census data; iii) training in data analysis.

Population and Housing Censuses Indicators of Latin America and the Caribbean
The Population and Housing Censuses database contains the censuses harmonized in such a way as to provide comparable census information over time and across countries. The variables in these databases are constructed under a common approach and structure, with standardized names, definitions, and disaggregations, and stored in a single file for each country. Currently, the harmonization of Population and Housing Censuses includes databases for 22 countries. The indicators are categorized into seven themes: demographics, education, labor market, housing, income, migration, and diversity. When possible, we add multiple disaggregations for indicators. The available disaggregations are ethnicity, gender, age, education level, and area of geographic residence. The management and harmonization of this database are provided by the Social Sector (SCL) of the Vice Presidency of Knowledge and Sectors to strengthen the analytical content of projects and studies.
