Ecuador Powers Up Energy Transition in Galápagos Islands, with IDB Support

The Government of Ecuador launched a plan backed by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the Galápagos Islands. The energy transition plan, called Energy Evolution, will also help Ecuador lower the fiscal burden of its liquid fuel and electricity subsidies by drastically cutting fossil-fuels use and building out renewable energy capacity in the archipelago.

IDB to Finance Loan for Ecuador-Peru Power Interconnection Project

The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) has approved a US$125 million loan for a 500-kilovolt power line that will help Ecuador and Peru connect their electrical grids. The European Investment Bank is expected to contribute an additional $125 million to the project. The 544 km extra-high voltage line between the two countries will help strengthen regional energy integration and further progress on the Andean Electrical Interconnection System initiative.

Ilan Goldfajn Elected IDB President

Ilan Goldfajn was elected president of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) today during a Special Meeting of the Bank’s Board of Governors. The meeting was held at IDB Headquarters in Washington, D.C., with delegations attending virtually and in person.
Nominated by Brazil, Goldfajn will take office for a five-year term on December 19, 2022.

IDB approves $1.14 billion credit line to Argentina to decarbonize its energy sector

The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) has approved a $1.14 billion conditional line of credit for investment projects to decarbonize Argentina’s energy sector.
The IDB Group remains committed to supporting Argentina's development agenda with projects that have a direct impact on development. As part of the credit line, the IDB authorized an initial $200 million in financing. This will be augmented by an additional €100 million from the French Development Agency and €100 million from the European Investment Bank.
