IDB President Claver-Carone to host a hemispheric Trade and Investment Forum with trade and foreign affairs ministers from the Americas and private-sector executives on June 7, 2022, in Los Angeles, California. The IDB event and regional agenda will be the first of its kind in nearly 20 years and will focus on three central trade agenda items: strengthening value chains and attracting investment, sustainable trade and climate change, and digital economy.

According to the study, each $1 spent on investment promotion has generated up to a total of $56 in additional foreign direct investment (FDI), and each $10,000 assigned to investment promotion was associated with the creation of 5.5 jobs.

One out of every two exporting firms in Latin America and the Caribbean believe that international demand will grow in the next three months, compared to 16 percent in 2020, according to a survey by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). Companies predict foreign demand to increase by 57 percent over the coming year, up from 36 percent in 2020 -- another sign of optimism in the exporting sector a year and a half after the COVID-19 outbreak.

The value of exports from Latin America grew 8.9 percent in the first quarter of 2021 compared to the same period in the previous year, consolidating a change in trend after the contraction caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, a new report from the Inter-American Development Bank has found. The drop in the value of exports in 2020 was 9.0 percent.
