An Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), IDB Invest and IDB Lab study reveals that 62% of representatives of major institutions and entities in the digital ecosystem in Latin America and the Caribbean think the digital gender gap is a problem in their respective countries. The same proportion believe that women have little participation in digital transformation processes because of a lack of skills and competencies.

If all workplace barriers women face were removed, Southern Cone countries’ GDP could rise by as much as 4 percent to 15 percent, a new report by the Inter-American Development Bank says. In Brazil, if ethnic barriers were also eliminated, GDP could gain as much as 30%, according to the report Closing the Southern Cone Gender Gaps – an Untapped Potential for Growth, which was issued during an international webinar on the subject.

The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) approved a $250 million loan to support economic recovery in Ecuador, focusing on strengthening the social protection system, female employment, and labor sectors linked to environmental objectives, also called "green jobs." Supporting the equal integration of women in the economy is one of the operation's priorities. The project will implement an Action Plan to increase female labor participation, reduce the salary gap, and promote female leadership in the country.

The Government of Canada will provide a CAD$1 million (US$798,000) in international assistance funding to the Gender and Diversity Lab (GDLab), the Inter-American Development Bank Group initiative dedicated to high-impact research to support a more inclusive and equitable society in Latin America and the Caribbean. Launched in May of 2021, GDLab promotes, leads and finances high-impact research to advance equality for gender and vulnerable populations.

A report by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), OECD, and UNESCO studies the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) systems on women’s work opportunities. The study reveals that AI systems can have a gendered effect on labor, care, and domestic employment. Moreover, AI can promote stereotypes about women that impact opportunities to reskill and upskill as well as pathways to STEM-related careers.

According to the latest IDB Group report, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Nicaragua, and the Dominican Republic have already recovered pre-pandemic economic activity levels. During 2021 the IDB Group approved $3.38 billion in financing to support the productive sector, inclusive recovery from the COVID-19 crisis, employment, value chains, and digitalization.
