Spain will host the IDB's non-regional members meeting in February 2022. MADRID - IDB President Mauricio Claver-Carone and members of his executive team concluded a successful visit to Madrid to encourage greater investment in Latin America and the Caribbean to boost the region’s post-pandemic recovery. The mission’s main objective was to strengthen international trade and attract financing and businesses that will accelerate the region's digital transformation and contribute to its sustainable and inclusive growth.

Latin America trade recovers from pandemic impacts

The value of exports from Latin America grew 8.9 percent in the first quarter of 2021 compared to the same period in the previous year, consolidating a change in trend after the contraction caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, a new report from the Inter-American Development Bank has found. Exports from Latin America and the Caribbean hit their highest level in six years thanks to a 9.9 percent increase in 2018, albeit amid growing downside risks in the future, according to a new report by the Inter-American Development Bank. The region exported $1.08 trillion last year. While this is the highest level since record exports in 2012, the rise fell short of the 12.2 percent growth rate for 2017. The region’s performance also lagged a worldwide trade increase of 11.6 percent for the Jan-Sept period (compared to the same period the previous year).
