Together with other donors, the IDB supports the Haitian government’s national agricultural plan, which seeks to address the sector’s structural problems. For 400 families who lost their homes in the 2010 earthquake, the inauguration of the Les Orangers housing development north of Port-au-Prince will mark a major milestone in Haiti’s reconstruction. The 400-house community was inaugurated on Monday, February 27 by Haitian President Michel Martelly, who had launched the construction work in June 2011, shortly after taking office.

This year, the Bank’s portfolio of projects in execution in Paraguay totals 27 sovereign guarantee operations for $755.27 million, of which $445.9 million are pending disbursement.

Financial disaster preparedness is a growing concern in Latin America and the Caribbean. Last year the region saw devastating earthquakes in Chile and Haiti and an active hurricane season that impacted Central America and Mexico. In addition, the La Niña-related weather phenomenon has brought severe flooding to Venezuela, Colombia and Brazil, among others.
