Branson, Mottley to Speak at IDB’s Inaugural Pivot Event

KINGSTON, Jamaica -- Richard Branson and Prime Minister of Barbados Mia Amor Mottley are two of the high-profile speakers scheduled to open the inaugural Pivot Event organized by the Inter-American Development Bank and partners.
The event which starts on October 15th, will be a virtual five-day gathering of pioneering thinkers in the Caribbean region. They are expected to harness big ideas into a manifesto for driving Caribbean transformation.

The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) launched the 2017 Call for Proposals of the Initiative for the Promotion of Regional Public Goods in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC), which supports projects aimed at resolving shared challenges and seizing opportunities for development through regional cooperation among at least three countries. Since 2004, the RPG Initiative has financed 140 projects, investing a total of more than US$103 million.

On March 20, Embotelladora de Sula S.A. (Emsula) of the Corinsa Group inaugurated the largest photovoltaic rooftop solar system in Latin America in its facilities, located in San Pedro Sula, Honduras.This project was financed with support from the IDB and will contribute 3MW to a facility that bottles soft drinks, juices and purified water for various companies, including Pepsi, Gatorade and Lipton Tea.

In late July, the first substation of the Central American Electrical Interconnection System (SIEPAC) is opening in Costa Rica. A week later, the substation in Panama will be ready to operate. Towers, lines and cables are already in place, so the southern section of the nascent Central American electricity market will soon be a reality.

IDB invites feedback on new project impact mechanism for communities

The Inter-American Development Bank today unveiled its new proposed Independent Consultation and Investigation Mechanism (ICIM)—the process through which affected communities can voice concerns about an IDB project.
The ICIM is a draft proposal, which is open to public consultation for civil society groups and other actors to express their suggestions and provide feedback. The idea is to enhance and speed up the investigation process of external allegations.
