The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) approved a US$ 170 million Conditional Credit Line for Investment Project (CCLIP) to advance deployment of renewable energy in The Bahamas along with the first operation of the CCLIP in the amount of US$ 80 million. This first operation will support the Government of the Bahamas with rehabilitation of critical energy infrastructure and restoration of electricity service in the islands affected by hurricane Dorian, while facilitating the introduction of renewable energy.

Dominican Republic – Colombia, Peru, Uruguay and Mexico lead the ranking of the Global Microscope on the environment for financial inclusion, an index that focuses on regulation, political strategies, and infrastructure to address this issue. In these four countries, financial inclusion is a priority and incorporates digital approaches. While Colombia and Mexico lead public policy and consumer protection categories, Uruguay and Peru stand out in stability and financial integrity.

The Inter-American Development Bank, through its innovation lab – IDB Lab, approved US$2 million funding for a project that will improve the productivity and sustainability of rice farming in Colombia The project, led by the International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT), will implement a new technological solution called “e-kakashi,” a service that combines internet of things (IoT), big data, artificial intelligence (AI) and cyber physical systems (CPS) to transform agriculture into a real-time, data-driven science.

Washington, D.C. — The Inter-American Development Bank Group together with MIT Solve launch an Open Innovation Challenge that seeks to find the most innovative solutions that substantially reduce or eliminate single-use plastic and plastic waste in Latin America and the Caribbean. The Regional Initiative to Eliminate Malaria has presented today its first results to the heads of state and government of the region. The goal is for Central America countries, the Dominican Republic, Colombia and Mexico to be declared free of Malaria by 2022. The Regional Initiative to Eliminate Malaria (IREM in Spanish) presented today to the heads of state and government of Mesoamerica the first results of the joint efforts being waged since early 2019 to eliminate malaria from these countries by 2022.

In its second edition, the call for proposals will be open from March 4th to May 17th, 2019. The Superheroes of Development Award will recognize executing agencies of IDB-financed projects that have successfully addressed challenges during its implementation.
