(Updated to add the starting date) Ilan Goldfajn was elected president of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) today during a Special Meeting of the Bank’s Board of Governors. The meeting was held at IDB Headquarters in Washington, D.C., with delegations attending virtually and in person. Nominated by Brazil, Goldfajn will take office for a five-year term on December 19, 2022.

The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the Government of France, through the French Development Agency (AFD), to continue expanding their productive partnership in LAC. The IDB-AFD joint pipeline for 2022 has identified areas of collaboration of $593 million for the private sector and over $1.5 billion in sovereign guaranteed operations in Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Colombia, and Ecuador.

The president of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) announced that Panama City will host the 11th regional forum in 2023. The announcement followed a bilateral meeting between the president of the IDB, Mauricio Claver-Carone, and the president of Panama, Laurentino Cortizo, to discuss joint efforts to accelerate Panama's development and explore opportunities to enhance Panama's leadership in Latin America and the Caribbean.

IDB Launches 2021 Sustainability Report Focused on Integrated Climate Action Last year, the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) financed a record $4.5 billion in activities related to climate change, according to its 2021 Sustainability Report. These resources, which account for 30% of the Bank’s total annual approvals, are benefiting the region through loans, grants, technical cooperation, guarantees, and equity investments.

The Government of Canada will provide a CAD$1 million (US$798,000) in international assistance funding to the Gender and Diversity Lab (GDLab), the Inter-American Development Bank Group initiative dedicated to high-impact research to support a more inclusive and equitable society in Latin America and the Caribbean. Launched in May of 2021, GDLab promotes, leads and finances high-impact research to advance equality for gender and vulnerable populations.
