IDB and Georgia Tech sign agreement to create an observatory aimed at improving competitiveness in the Mesoamerican region The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and Georgia Tech Panama Logistics Innovation & Research Center signed an agreement to institute the Mesoamerican Observatory on Freight Transport and Logistics. The Observatory is aimed at generating information and statistics to enhance policy making toward increasing competitiveness in Mesoamerica.

ANTIGUA, GUATEMALA – More than 120 food-export companies from Mesoamerica and Haiti participated in the fourth annual LAC Flavors business matchmaking event organized by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) in Antigua, Guatemala July 11–13. The exporters had more than 1,200 meetings with 40 potential buyers from the United States, Canada, China, South Korea, and Japan.

The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the Standard Chartered Bank (SCB) disbursed the first co-loan of the recently signed Latin American Trade Co-lending Partnership (TCLP). The $10 million, 360-day trade finance loan to Banco Industrial e Comercial S.A. (BICBANCO) will facilitate the flow of consumer goods from Brazil to Germany. This is the first of many trade finance loans expected to be disbursed under the partnership.

Rising trade and investment with Asia has helped increase exports from Latin America and the Caribbean and the region’s contribution to the growth of the world economy, said Luis Alberto Moreno, President of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), during his visit to India this week. Higher incomes in Asia, particularly India and China, are opening opportunities for the region’s goods and services, especially high-quality ones: from natural and unique grass fed beef, renowned wines, and specialized coffees to the high-quality services of architects and engineers, Moreno said.
