Ilan Goldfajn Elected IDB President

(Updated to add the starting date) Ilan Goldfajn was elected president of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) today during a Special Meeting of the Bank’s Board of Governors. The meeting was held at IDB Headquarters in Washington, D.C., with delegations attending virtually and in person. Nominated by Brazil, Goldfajn will take office for a five-year term on December 19, 2022.

The Inter-American Development Bank today launched Build the Americas, a mobile application designed to increase transparency and competition in the bidding process for infrastructure projects it finances in Latin America and the Caribbean. The app provides access to information on upcoming IDB-financed procurements in sectors such as energy, transportation, and water and sanitation, while facilitating the connection between infrastructure developers and local suppliers of goods and services.

The Regional Initiative to Eliminate Malaria has presented today its first results to the heads of state and government of the region. The goal is for Central America countries, the Dominican Republic, Colombia and Mexico to be declared free of Malaria by 2022. The Regional Initiative to Eliminate Malaria (IREM in Spanish) presented today to the heads of state and government of Mesoamerica the first results of the joint efforts being waged since early 2019 to eliminate malaria from these countries by 2022.
