The Inter-American Development Bank today announced the approval of a $1 million loan to Peru to assist the National Customs Superintendency in the consolidation and expansion of its quality system.
The system will be based on standards of the International Organization for Standardization, a system known as ISO 9000.The project will ensure continuity in the quality of services and satisfactorily implement the World Trade Organization’s Customs Valuation Agreement.
Peru’s Customs Administration is the first public entity to propose introducing ISO 9000 to assure the quality of its services.Previously, IDB since 1991 has supported the modernization of Peru’s customs service with three loans totaling $4.6 million. The present loan is for a 20-year term, with an 18-month grace period, at the variable interest rate, now 6.84 percent.
Local counterpart funds total $650,000
