IDB Art Collection
Our collection seeks to positively impact development by harnessing creativity and highlighting the power of art as an effective tool for innovative thinking.
Art of the Italian Diaspora in the Americas of the 20th Century, at the OAS AMA | Art Museum of the Americas, is an exhibition co-curated by the Art Museum of the Americas and the IDB Art Collection. Exploring the dynamic intersection of Italian heritage and American artistic expression, this exhibition showcases the profound impact that artists of Italian descent had on the development of unique artistic identities and takes us on a journey through the visual arts in the Americas.
The exhibition can be visited from Tuesday to Sunday, 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at 201 18th Street, NW, Washington, DC 20006. Admission free.
With the intention of bringing our Art Collection to a wider global audience, we have digitized the complete collection, and its highlights are now accessible through Google Arts & Culture. This comprehensive accessibility ensures that the artistry, talent, and creativity of artists primarily from Latin America and the Caribbean can transcend borders, narrating the stories of our communities and the hurdles we embrace as a development institution working to improve lives.
Our first entirely virtual exhibition, presents a selection of artworks acquired in 2018 and 2019. These works, in a variety of media by artists from a dozen countries, encapsulate the true ethos of our collection: that art is one of the most powerful tools for transformation and can inspire new ways of thinking about ourselves as members of a global community.
Seeks to highlight the important shift in the collecting practices of the IDB to bring a more diverse and inclusive experience to our audiences, while offering a platform for artists in the region to showcase their work. Their works represent the emergence of these important issues in the role of our collection as a vehicle for communication and social transformation.
We design and enable innovative and effective solutions that promote inclusive and sustainable development in the region.
