Apoyo a la Gestión de Riesgos en Cadenas de Valor en ALC
The objective of this Technical Cooperation (TC) is to reduce food losses caused along the value chain through support development banks (BD) and specialized agencies in designing integrated management strategies chains such risks. These institutions can play a catalyst of the different agents that are integrated into the value chain role, and the various instruments necessary for efficient risk management. The specific objectives are: (i) develop a methodology to support the BD and specialized agencies in designing strategies for comprehensive risk management value chains; and (ii) test and finalize the methodology through a pilot project in two countries. Through the pilot project it seeks to define a methodology to future replicable in other countries and sectors.
Mexico es one of the countries selected to test the methodology. Through the CLIPP ME-X1021, the Bank is working with Mexico in the promotion of investments that increase productivity in the rural sector and agribusiness value chains, so as to improve growth and food security . The Bank is currently designing the second loan under this credit line, with particular focus on value chains. FIRA, the Executing Agency of the loan, requested technical cooperation support to the Bank in order to develop a strategy for integrated risk management in agricultural value chains. This strategy will allow them to: (i) identify financing and non-financing needs along the value chains; and (ii) structure programs that would adequately combine financial and non-financial products to satisfy such needs. This information will be used as input for the demand study of FIRA´s financial and non-financial products. The second country for methodology testing will be identified according to the Bank´s loan portfolio development.
