Roberto Izurieta

Equador e Chile

Roberto Izurieta is an economist from the Pontifical Catholic University, Quito-Ecuador and has a Master of Arts in Speech Communication and Political Science (Double Major), from the Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, IL, United States and Master of Arts, The Graduate School of Political Management, George Washington University, Washington DC, United States.

Prior to his appointment as Alternate Executive Director at the IDB, he served as Secretary of Communication of the Republic of Ecuador (Dec 2023- April 2024) and Ambassador of the Republic of Ecuador in Chile (Dec 2022- Nov 2023). Previously, he held the position of Director of Latin American Projects at the Graduate School of Political Management at George Washington University. (2000-2022).

With more than 30 years of experience on development of policy, campaigns and as a political commentator and political strategist he has worked in such key areas as in education, media and government.

Most of his professional career has been teaching and working in campaigns and forming professionals in the field across the South America, North America, Caribbean and Spain. He starts early in his career in the Central Bank of Ecuador in the public administration and the last few years, he returns to his public vocation to serve as a Ambassador of Ecuador in Chile and Secretary of Communication in Ecuador.

In the academic field, he writes 2 books: “Estrategias de Comunicación para Gobiernos”, y “Cambiando la Escucha”. He still works as a professor in the program of the Graduate School of Political Management of the George Washington University of Washington DC. He was Speaker about Governmental Communication and/or Campaign Communication at over 30 international conferences. He has published numerous articles on CNÑ and was a political commentator (Feb 2006 to Dic 2022).
