Dr. Graciela Gomez, an Argentine citizen alleged the presence of environmental hazards and significant health impacts that could be caused by the implementation of the Food and Agriculture Health and Quality Management Program (1950/OC-AR). In addition, the Requester claimed that the Executing Agency, the National Food and Agriculture Health and Quality Service (SENASA), had not published the results of the public consultation carried out on the new toxicological classification of fito-sanitary products.

MICI actions

The following issues were addressed during the exchange of information session: (a) SENASA’s standardization program; (b) the classification and registry of agrochemical products; (c) the use of agrochemical products; and (d) the public consultation processes.

The Parties signed an agreement reaching important understanding on the mentioned issues. Among others commitments, SENASA is studying a new procedure for publishing the results of public consultations. Also, the IDB project team and SENASA will assess the incorporation of a new training and sensitization activity program into the project to support provincial and municipal governments in the promotion of correct use and application agrochemical products.
