Germán Rojas Irigoyen, a Paraguayan citizen, was appointed as Executive Director for Paraguay to the Inter-American Development Bank in December 2018.
Prior to joining the IDB, Mr. Rojas served as Paraguay’s Ambassador to the United States from 2016 to 2018.
Throughout his career, he has held several positions in Paraguay’s public and private sectors.
He served as Paraguay’s Minister of Finance from 2013 to 2014. During that same period, he was appointed Governor to the IDB, the International Monetary Fund, and the World Bank.
He served as Vice President of Banco Sudameris and as an advisor to the CEO of the Abbeyfield Group (Irish investment group) from 2008 to 2013.
In 2007 and 2008, Mr. Rojas served as President of Paraguay’s Central Bank, where he acquired most of his experience as a public official. He also spent several years teaching in Asunción, at Colegio Goethe and the Catholic University of Our Lady of Asunción, an activity that was thoroughly enriching.
Mr. Rojas holds a degree in Business Administration and Accounting from the Catholic University of Our Lady of Asunción. He has a postgraduate degree in SME Management and completed a certificate program in the economics of developing countries at the Friedrich-Alexander Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg of Germany.
