Reconstruction Program of the electricity infrastructure in the areas affected by the earthquake in Ecuador (EC-L1219) – Request II

Country: Ecuador

Reception date: March, 5 2019

Current Status: Closed

Requesters:

Confidential.

Summary of the Request

The Request alleges a series of negative impacts on the Requesters that might be linked to the Program, among which are:

• Impacts on the property of the Requesters, including a possible loss of property value.

• Risk caused by the proximity of transmission lines to homes, pedestrian traffic zones, and impact on the tourist landscape.

Regarding the non-compliance allegations with the Operational Policies, the Requesters caution on potential:

• Lack of inclusion in the decision process and public consultation, specifically regarding the discussions on alternatives to the electrical layout.

• Lack of access to information on documentation relevant to the Program, mainly about environmental and social impacts.

Recent actions

On March 12, 2019, MICI terminated the administrative processing of the Request so that the Requesters could establish contact with the Project Team and seek to respond to their concerns with them as a first instance. MICI informed the Requesters about the possibility of resubmitting the Request in case they consider that their concerns have not been addressed within a reasonable period of time.
