Laura Alfaro Maykall é a Economista-Chefe e Conselheira Econômica do Banco Interamericano de Desenvolvimento (BID). Ela assumiu esse cargo em 1º de junho de 2025, após tirar uma licença da Harvard Business School, onde é Professora Warren Alpert de Administração de Empresas.
Ela atuou como Ministra de Planejamento Nacional e Política Econômica da Costa Rica entre 2010 e 2012. É Coeditora do Journal of International Economics e do World Bank Research Observer, Vice-Presidente da Associação de Economia da América Latina e Caribe (LACEA) e Pesquisadora Associada do Center for Economic and Policy Research (CEPR) e do National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER).
A Sra. Alfaro Maykall é autora de inúmeros artigos sobre economia internacional, fluxos de capital, investimento estrangeiro direto (IED), dívida soberana e comércio. Ela obteve seu doutorado em Economia pela Universidade da Califórnia em Los Angeles (UCLA), onde recebeu o prêmio Dissertation Fellowship. Também recebeu seu diploma de bacharel em economia pela Universidade da Costa Rica e uma Licenciatura pela Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Chile. Sra. Laura Alfaro Maykall é cidadã da Costa Rica e dos Estados Unidos.
Ernesto Schargrodsky is the Deputy Chief Economist of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). Before joining the IDB in 2025, he was Full Professor and Director of the Crime Lab at Universidad Torcuato Di Tella in Argentina, and previously served as Director of Socioeconomic Research at CAF.
From 2001 to 2019, Mr. Schargrodsky served as President of Universidad Torcuato Di Tella, and he was Dean of its Business School from 2006-2011. Mr. Schargrodsky has been visiting professor at Stanford University and Harvard University. He is a fellow of the Econometric Society, associate researcher at J-PAL LAC, member of the National Academy of Economic Sciences of Argentina, and a researcher at CONICET.
Mr. Schargrodsky has published extensively on topics such as crime and policing, corruption, inequality, land titling, privatization, and political polarization. His work has appeared in leading academic journals including the American Economic Review, American Economic Review: Insights, Journal of Political Economy, Quarterly Journal of Economics, and American Economic Journal: Applied Economics, among others.
He received his Ph.D. and M.A. in Economics from Harvard University and holds a Licenciatura in Economics (Honors) from the University of Buenos Aires. He is a citizen of Argentina.

Fernando Arce is a Senior Specialist Economist at the Research Department of the Inter-American Development Bank. Previously, he was an economist in the Research Department of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago. Fernando holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Minnesota, an M.Sc. in Economics for Development from the University of Oxford, and a master’s degree in Statistics and Engineering from ENSAE ParisTech. His research focuses on international macroeconomics and finance in emerging economies, with particular emphasis on macroprudential policy, sovereign default, and the political economy of fiscal policy.
João Ayres é economista do Departamento de Pesquisa do BID. Seus interesses de pesquisa se concentram em economia internacional, macroeconomia e finanças públicas. Formado em economia pela Universidade de São Paulo, João tem mestrado e doutorado em economia pela Fundação Getúlio Vargas e doutorado em Economia pela Universidade de Minnesota.
