The general objective of this Technical Cooperation (TC) is to support the Government of Suriname with an assessment of the impact of the 2019 Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic on different economic and social sectors with the aim of identifying a targeted strategy for economic recovery. The specific objectives of this TC are to: (i) assess the socioeconomic impact of COVID-19; and (ii) establish a set of priority actions to be implemented in the short to medium term to support the socioeconomic recovery of Suriname. To achieve these objectives, TC resources will finance: (i) a Survey of Living Conditions (SLC) to collect household and individual level data on the socioeconomic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic; (ii) microeconomic studies assessing the impact of COVID-19 on poverty, inequality and social protection; and (iii) host events to share the findings with the government and key stakeholders. The results of the activities financed by this TC will serve as an input for the preparation and formulation of future operations to support socioeconomic recovery in Suriname. The Country Office Suriname will request further technical assistance to complement this TC to support lending operations in the areas of fiscal and debt sustainability.
