MICI-BR-2014-078
Brazil - Brazil - Blumenau Urban Sustainable Mobility Program, on behalf of 800 residents of the neighborhood of Ponta Aguda in Blumenau
Country: Brazil
Reception date: March, 12 2014
Current Status: Closed
Requesters:
Rodolfo Souza, on behalf of 800 residents of the neighborhood of Ponta Aguda in Blumenau
Summary of the Request
The Request received by the ICIM presents a number of concerns related to a potential relocation of a bridge to be built with funds from the BR-L1272 project.
The Requesters indicate not having been properly informed about the new proposal, having received only evasive answers about the future configuration of traffic, and not counting with a final proposal regarding the matter. According to the Requesters, the proposed new location would generate a volume of traffic flow incompatible with the area; an impact on the planning of the neighborhood; and increased pollution in the area. They also indicate the absence of technical risk studies related to flood that could be generated by the new design of the bridge, which includes abutments. Therefore, they request that the IDB does not accept the change of location of the bridge until further investigations are made so as to enable communities to have more information about the change of location and potential associated risks and about the commitments to be assumed by the Prefecture.
MICI actions
The Request is being revised by the Eligibility Committee. The due date for determination of eligibility for the Consultation Phase is April 11, 2014.
The Eligibility Committee of the Consultation Phase requested an extension to issue the memorandum of eligibility to analyze the latest information received. The new date to issue the document is now April 25, 2014.
The Request was declared ineligible for the Consultation Phase for not complying with the requirements of paragraph 40 subsection (g) of the Policy. Given that the Requesters’ do not wish to participate in a Consultation Phase but do want to enter into an investigation process in the context of a Compliance Review.
In May 23, 2014, the Request was declared ineligible for the Compliance Review Phase since the bridge is not currently part of the IDB-financed program.
