Javier Ortiz, a citizen of Paraguay, is the Chief Risk officer ad interim of the Inter-American Development Bank, as of January 1st, 2023.
Javier has worked in various positions at the Bank for over 20 years, first in the Finance Department (FIN) and later in the Office of Risk Management (RMG). Javier served as Principal Accountant within the Accounting Division, Chief of The Finance Internal Control Unit, Chief of the Operational Risk Management Unit, and as Principal Technical Leader - operations risk. Javier has implemented and led bank-wide risk and control frameworks such as the Internal Control over Financial Reporting process, the Operational Risk Management Framework, and launched the Socioenvironmental Risk Management Unit.
His responsibilities as Chief Risk Officer a.i. include managing risk within the IDB, including the assessment of credit, operational and market risks. RMG is responsible for strengthening the Bank's capacity to identify, measure and manage the credit risks of the Bank in its loan portfolio and its treasury activities, including derivatives. It also manages the Bank's exposure to market and operational risks.
Prior to his career at the IDB, Javier worked for auditing and consulting firms in Argentina, providing services to financial institutions across Latin America.
