MAP is a non-reimbursable technical cooperation program for productive development through the private and financial in Latin America and the Caribbean. The program emphasizes projects that raise evidence of what works and what does not work in productive and financial development in order to generate a more informed policy dialogue and to improve overall operational quality.
In its third call for proposals the program will finance innovative activities up to 100.000 Euros and research project up to 20.000 Euros on “New Financial Instruments for the Agricultural Sector”. The projects should have a well-defined project goal and measurable results and implementation timeframes of less than one year.
Who are the sponsors or partner institutions?
This call for proposals is led by the Division of Capital Markets and Financial Institutions from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) in coordination with the Multilateral Investment Fund (MIF) and the Department of Research. With resources from the Spanish General Trust Fund, the program stimulates key sectors for poverty reduction and facilitates the financial inclusion of traditionally excluded areas as a development strategy seeking equity and sustainable growth.
Who can participate?
The IDB wants innovative ideas and invites the private and public institutions of the IDB member countries to submit their proposal. For this call, the MAP specially encourages the finance and agriculture ministers and the rural and public banks. Natural persons, multilateral organizations, IDB staff (and individuals otherwise contractually linked to the Bank) or their relatives cannot submit proposals.
What specific areas is the new call about?
- Financial instruments and institutions to reduce price volatility.
- Public financial management strategies to deal with agricultural price volatility.
- Design and implementation of credit portfolio management techniques in rural and public banks.

The IDB will award up to 100.000 Euros for activities and up to 20.000 Euros for research projects.
When is the deadline for submission?
The deadline is May 15th 2012. There will be no exceptions for late submissions.
