Juscelino Kubitschek

Frequently asked questions

How often is the Juscelino Kubitschek Award of Merit for Regional Development in Latin America and the Caribbean awarded?
The Juscelino Kubitschek Award is given every two years; it is the most important distinction awarded by a multilateral institution in the Latin American and Caribbean region. This award gives priority to activities with demonstrable results, for which the Bank’s award could help expand those activities.

Can a specific project receive the award?
Unlike other initiatives and project competitions, one important characteristic of the Juscelino Kubitschek Award is that it recognizes the track record and activities of institutions, rather than a specific project. Thus, the award serves as an incentive for them to continue carrying out their activities.

What happens if there is more than one winner per category?
If there is more than one winner per category, the award is divided equally among the awarded.

Which countries can participate in this award?

Does the organization being nominated have to have a regionwide impact, or can its impact be at the community level?
The award allows for both, however priority will be given to activities with greater impact and scope in the Latin American and Caribbean region for the categories: “Economics and Finance” and “Social, Cultural, and Scientific”.
