AgroLAC 2025: An Agricultural Productivity Fund for Latin America & the Caribbean
What is it?
Addressing food security is key to development in both Latin America and the Caribbean and the world. With experts indicating that in just 36 years, global food production must increase by 60 percent on as little as 12 percent more arable land, the time to act on food security is now. That's why, in partnership with The Nature Conservancy and DOW, the IDB launched the AgroLAC 2025 Multi-Donor Fund to bring together diverse partners to achieve a long-term and stable food supply.
What will it do?
Working with diverse donors and collaborating partners, AgroLAC 2025 will harness the strengths of the public, private, academic, and non-profit sectors to expand commitments to agricultural research, the transfer of technologies and skills to regional farmers, and the empowerment of smallholder farms in Latin America and the Caribbean. The AgroLAC 2025 platform is guided by distinct priorities, striving above all to:
- Increase trade and access to markets,
- Expand productivity through sustainable intensification, and
- Enhance agricultural and environmental planning.
AgroLAC 2025's Operational Guidelines were approved in the first quarter of 2016.
How can you contribute?
The AgroLAC 2025 Fund is looking for partners to join as a member of the Steering Committee or as a Collaborating Partner. If youare interested in joining this effort, please write to AgroLAC2025@iadb.org. Additional information is available here: www.agrolac2025.org.
