New MICI External Consultative Group shares its expertise at first working meeting

MICI's External Consultative Group (GCE, for its acronym in Spanish) held its first meeting in a hybrid format following the formation of the second-generation of this Group. Over May 3rd and 4th, the six experts who advise the Mechanism pro-bono on various strategic issues met with MICI staff, participating in person at headquarters in Washington DC, and virtually.

The agenda for both sessions focused primarily on looking at possible ways to strengthen how MICI's processes address the issues raised in the complaints. The professional experience of each expert, in fields as diverse as environmental and social safeguards, conflict resolution, compliance verification processes, corporate governance in the private sector, civil society, and human rights, among others, provided enriching perspectives on this topic.

The first GCE was created in 2016 based on the recommendation of Civil Society Organizations and some IDB Group Executive Directors to strengthen the performance, transparency, and responsiveness of the Mechanism. Last November, its composition was renewed with six new members.
