MICI participates in the XIX Annual Meeting of Accountability Mechanisms

XIX IAMnet Annual Meetings

MICI has participated in the XIX Annual Meeting of the IAMnet, formed by 23 independent accountability mechanisms (IAMs) of international financial institutions. More than 120 representatives of the IAMs have participated in the meeting, from October 24 to 27, which for the first time took place in a hybrid format, virtually and face-to-face from New York and under the sponsorship of SECU (Social and Environmental Compliance Unit) of the United Nations Development Program. In addition, more than 50 representatives of Civil Society Organizations also participated in a day of joint sessions, on Wednesday 26.

As in previous years, the annual meeting addressed different relevant aspects to strengthen the institutional capacity and the effectiveness of independent mechanisms, such as the management of complaints with reprisals risk, good practices, and challenges to facilitate access to remedy when development generates unwanted impacts on communities, and governance issues, among others.

Andrea Repetto, MICI director, underlined the importance of these meetings to "share and learn about good practices between the different IAMs, which allow us to improve and be more effective in how we provide solutions through dispute resolution and our investigations" for potentially affected communities.
