Adjustments made to the MICI Policy of the Inter-American Development Bank in order to respond to the expanded mandate of the MICI

The MICI is the independent accountability mechanism that receives complaints related to operations financed by the Inter-American Development Bank and also, as of January 1st, 2016, those financed by the Inter-American Investment Corporation (IIC).

To this end, a Policy for the IIC which mirrors the MICI Policy with only a few modifications to address the particular nature of IIC operations was approved on December 15th, 2015.

Due to the extension of the mandate, it was necessary to make some adjustments to the MICI-IDB Policy in order to clarify the scope of the Mechanism for each IDB Group institution. Modifications also sought to ensure the independence of the MICI office regarding IIC Management.

For transparency purposes, and for a period of three months starting January 1st, 2016, these modifications are presented as a handout to the MICI-IDB Policy so that they can be clearly identified by users. After this period, a version will be issued with these adjustments incorporated into the body of the Policy itself

summary
As a result of the expansion of MICI’s mandate to also attend to complaints related to IIC operations, an amendment of the "Policy of the Independent Consultation and Investigation Mechanism" (document MI-47-3) was necessary.
