The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) has invited the President of the Chilean Supreme Court, Urbano Marín, and the Director of the Latin American Studies Program of Georgetown University, Erick Langer, to discuss the accomplishments of Chilean Judiciary and future challenges for Chile and the Latin America and Caribbean (LAC) region. The event will take place on November 30th at IDB headquarters in Washington D.C.

The Prime Minister of Bahamas, Rt. Honorable Hubert Alexander Ingraham, the Prime Minister of Barbados, Rt. Honorable David J.H. Thompson, and the Prime Minister of Belize, Rt. Honorable Dean Oliver Barrow will meet with IDB President Luis Alberto Moreno tomorrow, March 20, to discuss development issues of the Caribbean and further enhance that region’s strong relationship with the IDB.

Listening to member countries, growing closer to them and becoming increasingly more knowledgeable about their needs is a key IDB priority, according to Bank President Luis Alberto Moreno, following the Bank’s increasing focus on meeting its clients’needs. President Moreno addressed participants from 17 countries at a joint session of two of the Bank’s seven networks integrating the Regional Policy Dialogue Initiative -- the Poverty and Social Network and the Natural Disasters Network.

On February 16, 2006, a former employee of the Inter-American Development Bank entered a guilty plea before the United States District Court for the District of Columbia to charges against him for wire fraud involving resources of the Bank, agreeing to make full restitution of such resources. The fact of the criminal conduct was discovered by the Bank and referred for action to the U.S. authorities. Sentencing is scheduled for April 25, 2006.
