In its second edition, the call for proposals will be open from March 4th to May 17th, 2019. The Superheroes of Development Award will recognize executing agencies of IDB-financed projects that have successfully addressed challenges during its implementation. The contest will identify eight finalists from across Latin America and the Caribbean who will travel to IDB’s Headquarters in Washington, D.C. to present their solutions.

It will also aid in institutional strengthening and capacity building for those five governments and in partnering with the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB).

The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) has approved a $100 million loan to help Ecuador revamp, repower and improve the reliability of its electric system. The loan will provide continuity to the IDB’s support to Ecuador’s power sector, contributing to the government’s efforts to promote investments to strengthen the National Interconnected System. This operation focuses on equipment renewal, replacement and repowering in both the national transmission and distribution systems. It will also help strengthen management and planning capabilities.

Innovative financing arrangement between IDB and Impact Investors gives Ecuadoran rural communities the tools to grow and thrive The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) has closed a $9 million syndicated loan with Jardin Azuayo, a community-based savings and loan cooperative in Ecuador. The loan will fund the co-op’s Credits for Community Development project, which channels funds to municipalities, community organizations and other local entities to finance improvements in social infrastructure such as schools and roads.

The Inter-American Development Bank will hold a business plan competition for Caribbean tourism projects involving low-income communities in their value chains. The contest, organized by the IDB’s Opportunities for the Majority Initiative, is open to companies based in the Bahamas, Barbados, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago.
