MEDELLÍN, Colombia – The Board of Governors of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) today instructed the Bank’s management to “start immediately” to review the need for an increase in its ordinary capital, which currently stands at $101 billion, and a replenishment of its concessional lending window, the Fund for Special Operations.

The 50th Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of the Inter-American Development Bank and the 24th Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of the Inter-American Investment Corporation will be held in Medellín, Colombia, from March 27-31, 2009, to examine economic issues in the region. The Boards of Governors are the highest authorities of the IDB and the IIC. Their members are finance or economic affairs ministers, presidents of central banks or other high-ranking officials from the organizations’ member countries, including for the first time China.
