IDB Group launches Open Innovation Challenge to reduce plastic use

Washington, D.C. — The Inter-American Development Bank Group together with MIT Solve launch an Open Innovation Challenge that seeks to find the most innovative solutions that substantially reduce or eliminate single-use plastic and plastic waste in Latin America and the Caribbean. The Rethink Plastics Challenge offers the selected solutions prizes totaling 60,000 USD.

Agricultural revenues, employment in Latin American tropical areas likely to decline with deforestation ban

Farmers in Latin America and Caribbean will see billions in lost revenue over the next two decades if a complete ban on deforestation is put in place, highlighting the need for compensatory actions to alleviate poverty in affected rural areas, according to new pilot study by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). The study also found that a deforestation ban would have a negligible impact on food prices.

IDB and JBIC to Expand Cooperation in Mitigation and Adaptation of Global Warming

TOKYO, Japan – The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen cooperation in projects aimed at reducing green house gas emissions in Latin America and the Caribbean. IDB launches Public Consultation for its Latin American and Caribbean Climate Change Strategy

The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the largest source of multilateral financing for Latin America and the Caribbean, has launched a broad public consultation on the draft of its Integrated Strategy for Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation, and Sustainable and Renewable Energy. This public consultation includes a 90-day online forum in addition to meetings with representatives of civil society, including non-governmental organizations across the region and in Washington DC. The consultation is a critical step toward the adoption of a new climate change strategy.
