IDB announces innovative solution to address ocean plastic pollution in Haiti

IDB Lab, the innovation laboratory of the Inter-American Development Bank Group, will support Environmental Cleaning Solutions S.A. (ECSSA) capacity to recycle plastic in Haiti.   Haiti is considered one of the countries with the greatest risk of plastic entering the ocean.  The country generates a large volume of plastic waste in urban areas due to high consumption of treated water, soft drinks, and take away meals sold in plastic containers. 

Optimal sanitation: Focus on the Americas at World Water Week 2019

The Inter-American Development Bank is coordinating the Focus on the Americas sessions during World Water Week in Sweden’s capital, with a focus on adopting a new paradigm to close the gap in secure sanitation services in the region. STOCKHOLM, Sweden – Providing safe sanitation for all in Latin America requires not only significant investments, but a change of paradigm to be able to do more with less resources. Right now, only 22% to the population of Latin America and the Caribbean have access to those services.

IDB-FEMSA Award to innovation on water & sanitation opens call for 2019

The IDB-FEMSA Awards to innovation on water and sanitation are reaching their tenth anniversary in 2019 and will be celebrating the occasion with a special edition that calls on those who have innovative solutions to compete for a special prize.   First, second, and third place winners of the IDB-FEMSA Awards will receive $15,000, $10,000 and $5,000 in cash, respectively. This year will also feature a special category called “All stars,” where prior editions finalists will compete for a one-time cash prize of $15,000.

Ecuador to improve drinking water and sanitation services with IDB support

US$87.1 million loan will benefit Quito Metropolitan District’s 2.6 million residents Ecuador will improve continuity, operational management and reliability of the drinking water system and boost wastewater treatment capacity, bringing direct benefits to more than 200,000 people and indirect benefits to Quito’s 2.6 million metropolitan district dwellers, with help from a US$87.1 million loan from the Inter-American Development Bank.

IDB launches Superheroes of Development contest to recognize executing agencies

More than 23,000 homes in northern Haiti will benefit from better environmental and health conditions through a solid waste management and final disposal program The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) has approved a $33.5 million grant to help finance an integrated solid waste management program in northern Haiti. The program’s goal is to boost living conditions in the departments of Cap-Haitien, Limonade and Quartier Morin by improving management and funding solid waste handling and final disposal infrastructure.
