(Updated to add the starting date) Ilan Goldfajn was elected president of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) today during a Special Meeting of the Bank’s Board of Governors. The meeting was held at IDB Headquarters in Washington, D.C., with delegations attending virtually and in person. Nominated by Brazil, Goldfajn will take office for a five-year term on December 19, 2022.

Suriname will strengthen its fiscal sustainability and foster economic growth with the budget support of $150 million from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) approved a $104 million loan to bolster the efforts of the municipality of Recife, in northeastern Brazil, to achieve fiscal sustainability through increased tax collection, better budget and financial management, and more efficient spending. The operation is structured as a policy-based loan, the first ever granted to a Brazilian municipality, reflecting the close collaboration between IDB and the Brazilian government to strengthen subnational fiscal management.
