IDB approves financial mechanism to provide up to $100 million to Haiti

The Board of Executive Directors of the Inter-American Development Bank announced the approval of an Account for the Administration of Donor Resources for Haiti, which may receive contributions totaling up to $100 million from the countries in the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR).

UNASUR  includes Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Paraguay, Peru, Surinam, Uruguay and Venezuela.

The account, which will be administered by the IDB, will provide budgetary support upon request of the Haitian government.

This initiative is part of UNASUR’s commitment to support Haiti’s reconstruction after the January 12 earthquake and is within the framework of comprehensive support for Haiti the IDB is mobilizing with the international community.
