Book on 50 years of development in Latin America and the Caribbean launched

MEDELLÍN, Colombia – Inter-American Development Bank President Luis Alberto Moreno and Ricardo Ávila, Director of Colombia's financial newspaper Portafolio, presented on Saturday March 28 a new book on half a century of development in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The launching of Celebrar el pasado, construir el futuro – Cincuenta años de desarrollo en América Latina y el Caribe (Celebrating the past, building the future – Fifty years of development in Latin America and the Caribbean) took place at 12:30 p.m. in Conference Hall RP02 of Medellín's Plaza Mayor Convention Center.

Ávila's book explores five decades of ups and downs, achievements and contradictions in the region's economic life. It analyzes the evolution of theory and practice of development and the work of the IDB, and includes testimony from outstanding economists and researchers as well as social and business leaders.

The work of Ávila, who is also Deputy Director of Opinion at the daily El Tiempo, was presented on the eve of the 50th Annual Meeting of the IDB's Board of Governors taking place March 29-30 in Medellín. The Governors represent the Bank's 48 member countries.
