Inter-American Investment Corporation launches financial technology and innovation event in Colombia

FINPYME Forum on September 21-22 will bring banking experts to Medellín from around the world

The first-ever FINPYME Forum, organized by the Inter-American Investment Corporation (IIC), will take place in Medellín, Colombia, on September 21 and 22.  The event aims to provide banks from Latin America and the Caribbean with innovative tools to improve the way they provide financing to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

Risk analyses based on social media profiles, crowdfunding platforms, and online financing are but a few examples of the innovations the FINPYME Forum will address. Experts from around the world will join commercial banks from throughout the region to explore innovative alternatives for analyzing client risk, including new models and creative tools to bolster the financing provided by banks to SMEs.

“At the Corporation, we are aware that banks need to innovate to meet the needs of SMEs. Therefore, we want to support them and invite them to form part of this dialogue to discover new technologies and alternatives to improve their portfolio of products,” said Gregory Da Re, chief of the IIC’s Strategy and Innovation Division.

In addition, leaders in banking innovation will attend, such as Brett King, founder of Moven—a FinTech—and author of the book “Breaking Bank$.” He will be joined by dozens of experts from the region and the world over, as well as the founders of financial technology companies, all of whom will share their knowledge and offer recommendations for improving the financial services available to the owners of the region’s small and medium-sized enterprises.
