IDB announces partner institutions for the 2010 Cultural Development Program

The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) has selected 28 partner institutions to finance and provide technical assistance to small-scale cultural development projects in 21 countries. Under the Bank’s Cultural Development Program, these projects will receive grants of US$3,000 and US$7,000.

The Cultural Development Program, managed by the IDB Cultural Center, aims to promote cultural development in Latin America and the Caribbean by financing projects and working hand-in-hand as project partner.

This year’s grants were awarded to innovative micro-projects for technical training, art, music and theater instruction for educators, artists and musicians.Taking into consideration the diversity of these cultural disciplines, the projects were evaluated for their viability, educational scope, effective use of resources, ability to mobilize additional sources of financing, and long-term impact on the community.

This year, the Cultural Center received 634 project applications, from which 191 were preselected with help from the IDB Country Offices. Then, a Selection Committee awarded grants to 28 project proposals from 21 countries.
