MICI Meets with Civil Society Organizations in Argentina

Last Monday November 16, in the city of Buenos Aires, Argentina, MICI carried out the “Independent Consultation and Investigation Mechanism (MICI) Workshop: Theory and Practice.” The objective of the event was to get to know MICI, share experiences about cases and strengthen ties with civil society organizations that work to promote social and environmental sustainability in Argentina.

The workshop was jointly organized by MICI, the IDB Country Office in Argentina, and the Foundation for the Development of Sustainable Policies (FUNDEPS) and twenty-two people participated.

The event’s welcoming was given by Mr. Hugo Florez Timoran, the IDB Representative in Argentina; it was followed by a detailed presentation about MICI, its scope and process by Victoria Marquez-Mees, the Director of MICI. The second session, moderated by Francisco Giacosa, Coordinator of FUNDEPS, focused on experiences of Requesters with MICI in which the context of each case was presented by MICI Case Officer Arantxa Villanueva, and testimonies about each case in voice of the requesters was made by: Dr. Gustavo Neme (Request AR-MICI002-2010), Mr. Pablo Folonier (Request AR-MICI001-2010) and Mr. Pedro Barragán (Request MICI-AR-2014-081).

In the third session, “Dialogue between MICI and Civil Society,” Gonzalo Roza, Coordinator of FUNDEPS, described the work of accountability mechanisms and their interactions with Civil Society. Similarly, in the closing session, Victoria Marquez-Mees and Gonzalo Roza, exchanged experiences and perspectives among the participating organizations and the panelists, after which the event was closed.
