We are the independent accountability office of the IDB Group. We manage complaints about possible environmental and social harm arising from Group-financed projects.
The IDB Group is the leading source of financing for Latin America and the Caribbean and works to improve lives. But development projects sometimes have unintended negative impacts. When that happens, MICI is here to work with all parties to remedy the situation, either through our dispute resolution process or through a compliance investigation. We also draw lessons learned from the cases to keep mistakes from being repeated and to improve the design and execution of future projects.

On August 7, 2023, MICI distributed the Recommendation for a Compliance Review and its Terms of Reference (TOR) to the Board of Executive Directors of the IIC for consideration by Short Procedure. On August 28, 2023, the Board approved the Recommendation to conduct a Compliance Review and ToR. The investigation is expected to last 6 months from the date on which the investigation panel is formed, which will be made up of the Compliance Phase Coordinator and two experts.
MICI’s Compliance Review Phase has begun the process of selecting the experts who will make up the investigation panel for the claim "Integrated Urban Solid Waste Management Program. — Request IV" (MICI-IDB-AR-2022-0182). The Phase coordinator and two members of its roster of experts with proven experience in the topics included in this compliance verification will conform the investigation panel.
On March 29th, 2023, MICI concluded managing a complaint related to the project "First Line of the Bogotá Metro – Section 1" (CO-L1234), having verified the compliance of all the items agreed upon by the parties.
MICI calls for applications to receive expressions of interest from professionals with proven experience who wish to join its Roster of Experts of the Compliance Review Phase for the period 2022-2025
In June this year, MICI resumed face-to-face activities to promote access in the region for the first time since the beginning of the pandemic. The Mechanism held six days of meetings with different actors in Peru and Ecuador.
MICI is seeking to hire a Consultant Case Assistant to support the work of the Compliance Review Phase by performing work that requires a combination of clerical support and operational tasks. Candidates should apply by next June 7, 2023.
