MICI Co-Hosts Workshop for CSOs in Mexico

MICI joined forces with several Independent Accountability Mechanisms (IAMs) and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) to co-host an outreach workshop for Mexican CSOs in Mexico City on June 8, 2016. The purpose of the workshop was to provide information on the role and work of the IAMs, listen to CSO concerns, and exchange views on accountability trends in Mexico. Over 90 CSO representatives from 16 Mexican States participated. They represented a wide range of organizations and areas of work. Several international accountability CSOs such as Accountability Counsel, Center for International Environmental Law (CIEL), and International Accountability Project also participated and spoke on panels.

The day-long event (see agenda) included presentations by the heads of the IAMs about their work, presentations by CSOs on their experiences with engaging the mechanisms, and a broader discussion on accountability trends in Mexico. The workshop was facilitated by two Mexican CSOs, Fundar and Centro de Colaboración Cívica, which employed an interactive methodology throughout the day. The workshop discussion was recorded by a graphic artist who highlighted the major issues and consensual positions (see graphic recordand video). Participants expressed their overall satisfaction with the workshop logistics, methodology, and content through an evaluation questionnaire.
