Reconquista River Basin Environmental Sanitation Program- Request II
Country: Argentina
Reception date: April, 4 2019
Current Status: Closed
Requesters:
Martín Nunziata, resident of Tigre, Buenos Aires Province, Argentina.
The Requester alleges potential environmental and health damages linked to the intervention of the Reconquista river as contemplated in the Program.
Specifically, the Request describes negative impacts to the river biodiversity, including species such as turtles, patí and surubí, caused by poor water quality and high river pollution. Also, the Requester warns about health damages caused by the lack of sewage treatment and water for industrial use that would be dumped into the river.
Finally, the Request alleges a lack of relevant information about the Project and deficient public consultations with the impacted population.
On May 2, 2019, MICI finalized the administrative processing of the Request in accordance with paragraph 20 (b) of the MICI Policy as the required information for registration was not received within the 10 business day period.
On April 12, 2019, MICI granted the Requester a maximum period of 10 business days to submit the information required to continue the processing of the Request (paragraph 20 of the MICI Policy). The deadline was April 26 of 2019.
